Civil police started an operation against a criminal faction that operates in the Lins Complex, north of Rio de Janeiro, on Wednesday (12). The action takes place after an investigation initiated by the Civil Police resulting from the murder of doctor Gisele Mendes de Souza and Mello in December 2024.

The purpose of the operation is to comply with arrest warrants and search and seizure. So far two people have been arrested.
The murder was in charge of the Capital Homicide Police Station (DHC), where an inquiry was initiated to identify the faction members in the region. Among the targets of the operation is a man named as the author of the shots that killed Gisele. Criminals are involved in other infractions, such as vehicle theft.
According to Governor Claudio Castro, the Civil Police are acting with strategies to weaken the criminal organization and its activities.

The doctor was shot in the head on December 10, 2024. According to the Rio de Janeiro Military Police, she was hit while there was an operation of the Pacifying Police Unit (UPP) Lins.
