Russia insists on peaceful solutions to take into account its legitimate interests, the Ušakov advisor said after a call with the US security advisor.
Adviser to Russian President Yuri Ušakov on Thursday criticized the proposal for a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine and said it would only be a “time -rest time” for the Ukrainian army. Any agreement to stop the fighting in Ukraine, according to Ukov, must ensure the interests of Russia. According to the AFP report, TASR reports this.
“It would only be a temporary exhalation for the Ukrainian army,” said Ušakov after a call with the US President advisor to National Security Mike Waltz.
According to Ukov, Russia demands that the agreement ensure Russian interests. “We are trying to do that – a peaceful solution that will take into account the legitimate interests of our country,” said Kremlin, advisor to the head of the Kremlin. According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin will soon comment on the matter.
Ušakov, however, stressed that “steps imitating peace actions in the current situation no one needs”.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Thursday morning indicated that Putin could comment on the proposed ceasefire during a planned Thursday press conference with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
On Tuesday, Ukraine supported the proposal of the United States for a 30-day ceasefire with Russia on Tuesday at negotiations with US officials in Saudi Jidda. At the same time, the US agreed to abolish the restrictions for military assistance and the exchange of news information with Ukraine.
On Thursday, US President Steve Witkoff arrived in Russia to discuss this proposal for a ceasefire with the Russian party.
According to AFP, US President Donald Trump expressed optimism that US officials could help achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine.
