War in Ukraine has been going on for over three years

The president of the United States, announced on Wednesday (12) that he is sending negotiators to Russia, amid pressure on Moscow to accept, as Kiev has already done, his proposal to cease fire of 30 days in the war on the war . Trump says he expects his Russian colleague Vladimir Putin to support this plan, but avoided detailing what he would do in case of a negative.

Moscow, in turn, has not yet commented and claims to be waiting for the details. “A telephone conversation at the highest level” between Trump and Putin is possible in a “very short time,” Russian presidency spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters. Earlier this month, the Russian Foreign Ministry considered a temporary respite “unacceptable” to be “unacceptable”.

The US President said he will “speak” with Putin probably this week. Meanwhile, will send negotiators to “right now”. The White House said the envoy Steve Witkoff would travel to Moscow this week. The ceasefire proposal was forged in Tuesday negotiations in Saudi Arabia among Ukrainian and Americans responsible after more than three years of war.

This meeting ended the tensions between Kiev and Washington after the basement between Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky, and Trump at the White House. The American Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, for whom “the ball is now” with the Russians, expects “impatiently” the response of Moscow.

“If the answer is ‘yes’, then we know we have made true progress and there is a real opportunity for peace.” If the answer is “no”, Russia “will make its intentions clear,” Rubio said on Wednesday. Zelensky said he doesn’t “trust” in Moscow. “Russia must answer,” he said at a news conference. In addition, he asked the United States “strong” measures in the event of a Russian negative and clarified that the security guarantees that Kiev claims to his Western allies will be discussed “in more detail” as the truce is in force.

The Europeans, who are for now excluded from discussions with Kiev and Moscow, set up Russia together to pronounce. They also returned to the security guarantees to determine Russia to launch a new attack. In the streets of Kiev, the proposal had a warm reception. “The idea is good, but I think Russia will never accept,” Roman Dunayevskiy told AFP.

In Kramatorsk, near the front in Donbass, a Ukrainian officer also considers that the Russians will continue their attacks, including in case of ceasefire. A similar distrust hangs among the Moscovites consulted by AFP. Anna Kozlova, an employee of the Russian penitentiary system, believes that a truce will allow Ukraine to “rear”. “And the war will come back,” he said.

Under ‘Pressure’ in Kursk

Ukraine’s positive response to the proposal led Washington to announce the resumption of military aid and the transmission of intelligence information to Kiev. According to Poland, on Wednesday, the deliveries of US military equipment by the Jasionka Logistics Center “returned to previous levels.”

On the ground, the Ukrainian forces have been retreated for several days at the Kursk, Russian Administrative Region (Oblast), which invaded in August 2024. If these territories are lost in Kursk, Kiev will be without their “bargaining cores” in eventual peace negotiations with Russia, which occupies 20% of Ukraine.

Zelensky said on Wednesday that Russian troops are “clearly trying to apply maximum pressure” on the Ukrainian contingent in Kursk, although he has not announced any withdrawals. Ukrainian army chief Oleksandr Syrskyi ordered the region to send the region on Monday.

At the same time, the bombings in Ukraine continue. In Odessa (south), a Russian ballistic missile killed four people on Tuesday night and damaged a Barbados flag ship, according to Ukrainian authorities. But Kiev also intensifies military pressure. Following the biggest attack with Drones against Moscow since the beginning of the conflict, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported on Thursday that its defenses overthrew 77 Ukrainian drones launched against its territory.

Another Ukrainian attack on a Kursk food factory killed four people, according to its governor, Alexander Khinshtein. In this context, Vladimir Putin visited the units that fight against the Ukrainian army in this region, Kremlin announced on Wednesday.
