On Friday, Czech deputies refused to ban the shock absorbers on short gun and revolvers within the government bill on weapons and ammunition. The amendment, promoted by Interior Minister Vít Austrian, was created in response to shooting in the Klánovice Forest and at the Faculty of Arts of the Charles University in 2023.

Austrian argued that the Austrian’s amendment on the amendment on the shock absorbers that they are not necessary for personal protection. According to him, their ban would not harm anyone and, on the contrary, could increase the security and sense of security of citizens in the Czech Republic. He was based on the support of the police or the president and stressed that it is not a “self -purposeful beery”.

“The evaluation of murders in the Klánovice forest and at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University has shown … that the availability of short weapons shock absorbers is a safety risk in the event of an armed shooter attack, both for potential victims and intervening police officers and, according to the police, and for the procedure for investigating such a tragedy,” he added. In Klánovice and at the Faculty of Arts, the UK was fundamentally complicated and extended by the use of the silencer.

Nevertheless, this proposal did not pass, only 50 out of 158 deputies voted for it, 89 were against them. For example, the deputies who opposed against the use of shock absorbers on the shooting range, where they believe it is necessary to limit the noise if the shooting range is in the development. Another disapproving reason was the alleged limitation of weapon holders and also that if one wanted to use a weapon at home in self -defense, without a silencer would damage hearing. However, according to the rapporteur of the bill of Petr Letuch, this is very questionable.

The proposal will try to re -enforce

He explained that there are currently more than a million registered weapons in the Czech Republic, more than 316,000 arms license holders and over 24,000 shock absorbers. He recalled that the prohibition of shock absorbers had already been valid, in 2021 their parliamentary house allowed them, but now it is necessary to reflect safety more.

However, according to Austrian, the changes that have undergone the law will increase security. For example, he emphasized the approval of better ammunition registration, which can speed up the processes in the investigation, as well as the obligation for doctors. They will have to verify that if the patient suffers from a disease or is in a condition that would exclude the ability to treat weapons or ammunition, he is entitled to hold them. The Minister added that he will continue to try to enforce the proposal for the prohibition of shock absorbers.
