New team joins astronauts retained for 9 months at the International Space Station

A new team of astronauts arrived at the International Space Station to rescue Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, retained for more than nine months due to failures in the Boeing Starliner ship.

A new team of astronauts entered this Sunday at the International Space Station (ISS) to rescue colleagues retained more than nine months ago, according to images transmitted live.

Shortly after 05:45, these images show the astronauts who arrived aboard Spacex Crew Nave Dragon to embrace the pair at the space station.

The ship, which was making the first manned flight, suffered propulsion problems and was considered unable to make them return to Earth.

What was initially predicted to be a trip for a few days lasted more than nine months to Wilmore and Williams, a much longer period than the usual six -month rotations of Astronauts aboard ISS.

They will be able to start their return next Wednesday, a few days after the arrival of the new crew.

The stay of the two astronauts is shorter than the US space record of 371 days, established by the astronaut of Frank Rubio, aboard the ISS in 2023, or the world record of Russian cosmonaut Valeri Polyakov, which spent 437 consecutive days aboard the MIR space station.
