The Caribbean island of Haiti is experiencing a new wave of violence, which this time has been the local media. After the space of two stations – Mélodie FM and Radio -Télélevision Caraibes – were burned and the headquarters of Teleplulriel were also plundered and burned. Referring to her statement on Monday night, AFP reported.

Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé in Status on Network X attributed responsibility for these attacks by an armed gang, whose action was described as a despicable act and a serious attack on freedom of expression, won “at the price of great victims”. The Haitian Media National Association stated in a statement that unreservedly condemns this act committed at a time of constant chaos in the country.

Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere: It has been politically unstable for a long time and its capital is dominated by rival armed gangs, which commit blackmail, murder, rape and kidnapping for ransom.

Armed groups have been struggling to control the Haitian capital Port-Au-Prince for several years. Their clashes have intensified in recent weeks, as rival gangs have been trying to expand their impact zones. In December 2024, two journalists and a police officer died in the shootout, caused by gangs.
