Death of leader in plane crash shocks Olympic community

The Olympic community paid tribute to World Sailing vice president Line Markert on Wednesday after the Danish, his partner and his son died in a plane crash in Switzerland.

O, honored Markert’s contribution to the sport at the opening of the 144th session of the organ.

Markert, his partner Andreas Christensen and his son were returning from one when his private aircraft fell shortly after takeoff on Monday afternoon (17).

“This is a terrible tragedy and a huge shock,” said Quanhai Li, president of World Sailing. “Our thoughts are with family and friends of Line and Andreas at an unimaginably difficult time.

“Line was an extraordinary person, known and admired in our global candle community.”

World Sailing CEO David Graham described Markert’s death as a devastating blow to the sport.

“Line was an exceptional person – humble, altruistic and extremely competent,” said Graham. “His contribution to the candle, both in Denmark and the World Sailing, was significant.

“Those who worked with Line will remember a person who used their considerable experience and authority in a light way.
