United States President Donald Trump has signed an executive order that dismantles the country’s department of education. “The US spends much more money for people with education than any other country in the world,” said the Republican. “Let’s return US education to US states.”
During the signature event, Trump also stated that “educational costs will be lower in this way and the quality of education will be much, much better.” He assured that the department’s “useful” functions will be preserved and redistributed to other federal government folders. “For example, funds for students with special needs will be kept and transferred,” he explained.
In a speech directed to the Secretary of Education, Linda McMahon, Trump stated: “We will find what to do with you.”
The president also announced the signing of an action to intensify the exploitation of critical minerals in the US and stressed his intention to sign a mineral exploration agreement with Ukraine soon. “We are doing very well with Russia and Ukraine,” he added.
The US Department of Education has spent more than $ 3 trillion “nothing to show for it” since 1979, according to a statement released by the White House earlier. “Although spending by student increased more than 245% in this period, there was virtually no measurable improvement in students’ performance,” the text says.
The government also pointed out that seven out of ten fourth and eighth grades are not proficient in reading, and US students occupy 28th position among 37 OECD member countries in mathematics. “Instead of maintaining the status quo that is failing with American students, the bold Trump government plan will return education to the place where it belongs – to individual states, which are best positioned to manage effective programs and services that meet their unique populations and needs,” says the White House.
