Engie announces the purchase of two hydroelectric dams for $ 2.9 billion

Facilities located in Amapá and Pará add 612 MW (Megawatts) to the company’s energy production park

It informed it on Friday (21.mar.2025) which concludes the purchase of two hydroelectric dams in the North region with AEA. The value of the negotiation is R $ 2.9 billion, divided into R $ 2.3 billion equity value and R $ 671 thousand of net debt.

The company acquired the Santo Antônio do Jari Plant, located in the states of Amapá and Pará, and the Caldeirão Cachoeira Plant, in the state of Amapá. The projects add 612 MW (Megawatts) of installed capacity to the company’s generating park.

The Santo Antônio do Jari hydroelectric dam, located on the Jari River, between the municipalities of Laranjal do Jari (AP) and Almeirim (PA), has 393 MW of installed capacity and 211 MW mediums of commercial capacity. The plant began its commercial operation in 2014 and the concession wins in October 2045.

Already the Caldeirão Cachoeira Plant, located on the Araguari River, in the municipality of Ferreira Gomes (AP), has an installed capacity of 219 MW and commercial capacity of 123 MW medium. The commencement of commercial operation occurred in 2016 with grant until August 2048.

The two units will be integrated into a generating park that today has 11.3 GW (gigawatts), being 9.6 GW of its own installed capacity, which is composed of 115 plants, being 11 hydroelectric and 104 complementary – Centrals to biomass, SHPs (small hydroelectric plants), wind and solar.
