The mayor of Recife, (), intends to use the national presidency of the PSB to counteract the governor () in the articulations of agreements for those of 2026 to the government of Pernambuco.
João Campos will take over the PSB in May, succeeding the current president of the subtitle, Carlos Siqueira.
the assessment is that Raquel Lyra will have more political muscles to establish alliances and have greater competitiveness in next year’s state dispute.
Allies were warned of the strategy of using the national influence for the PSB project in Pernambuco throughout the Mayor’s enthusiasts to the party’s presidency.
In addition, João Campos will intensify agendas in the interior of Pernambuco, in order to popularize his image, on the grounds that he will be president of the PSB in the country, as he does not want to openly assume the possible candidacy for governor next year.
The beginning of the new strategy will be from March 30 in Afogados da Ingazeira, in Sertão do Pajeú, PSB electoral stronghold since the time of former governors Miguel Arraes and Eduardo Campos, father of João.
The mayor’s rise to the presidency will maintain the dominant influence of the party wing of the party, which already controls the PSB. The mayor’s brother, Deputy Pedro Campos (PE), is the leader of the association in 2025 in the Chamber of Deputies.
Three parties are treated as a priority for the eventual state project of João Campos in 2026:, MDB and União Brasil. The mayor indicated, in several conversations with members of the three parties, that there is no decision on a governor candidacy in 2026, but leaders of the three subtitles evaluate that it takes a decision until January not to disturb the planning of the election year.
If he decides to be a candidate for governor, João Campos would need to resign as mayor until the beginning of April next year.
The PT is regarded as vital in a possible coalition of João Campos. Therefore, one of the mayor’s priorities in the presidency of the PSB will be to consolidate the political alliance between the two parties around President Lula’s reelection project.
The evaluation of allies of João Campos is that, with the PT-PSB alliance nationally, Lula would hardly rise on a stage next to Raquel Lyra in Pernambuco.
Allies do not rule out the possibility of supporting Lula’s reelection. But in the current scenario, according to the governor’s surroundings, it would not make sense of this support in the face of the president’s popularity crisis.
In the state, the PT has as its priority the reelection of Senator Humberto Costa. The party has not yet taken side between João Campos and Raquel Lyra, but has a greater proximity to the PSB and participates in the management of the Recife City Hall with two secretaries. Petist state deputies, however, often vote aligned with Raquel Lyra’s government in the Legislative Assembly.
João Campos wants to act to keep Geraldo Alckmin as vice president in Lula’s reelection plate. The vacancy is coveted by other parties, such as the MDB.
The emedebista acronym is closer to João Campos, after a period of alliance also with Raquel Lyra. But the party did not leave the governor’s sights for next year.
In turn, João Campos may, in the presidency of the PSB, involve other states in negotiations in exchange for alliance with the MDB in Pernambuco, either with support to emedebist candidates to state governments or snedo alliances.
In joining the PSD, Raquel Lyra received the promise of maximum structure load to compete for reelection. According to people close to the governor, he promised the ceiling of the electoral fund allowed in 2026.
Another focus of the PSD is the assembly of competitive plates for federal deputy in Pernambuco. The government is preparing to use this structure in order to attract parliamentarians from the center that are allies of João Campos and have significant electoral bases.
A possible low to João Campos may be the federation that is in articulation between PP and União Brasil. This is because the two parties are on opposite sides in Pernambuco and, if there is the Federation, they will have to function practically as a single party for four years.
In Pernambuco, the federation would be under the command of federal deputy Eduardo da Fonte (PP-PE), who can dispute the Senate in the coalition of Raquel Lyra, allied of the parliamentarian.
União Brasil is chaired in Pernambuco by the former mayor of Petrolina Miguel Coelho, who wants to dispute the Senate in a possible plate of João Campos.
One party that is right in support of João Campos in 2026 is Republicans, led in Pernambuco by the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, who wants to compete in the Senate, as well as Miguel Coelho and Humberto Costa.
After PSD affiliation, Raquel Lyra took a two -week vacation period. In January and February, the government intensified road deliveries, water supply and social programs.
