Lawyer, journalist and writer died on Saturday morning (29), of multiple organ failure
The lawyer, journalist and writer Marcos Vinícios Rodrigues Vilaça, member of (GLA), died on Saturday morning (29), at the age of 85, of multiple organ failure. Former Minister of the Federal Court of Audit (TCU), Vilaça was hospitalized at the Florence Clinic in Recife. He had occupied ABL chair 26 since 1985. Vilaça died just a day after Heloísa Teixeira, also a member of the GLA.
Vilaça is the author of works such as “Northeast: Dry & Wet”, “Blue Recife, Sky Liquid”, “Time and Dream” and “For a National Policy of Culture – Ministry of Education and Culture”, “around the sociology of the truck”. Together with Roberto Cavalcanti, he wrote “Colonel, Colonels: Heyday and decline of coronelismo in the Northeast”, considered a classic about the power structures in the region dominated by colonels.
Linked to former President José Sarney, who appointed him to the Federal Court of Audit and received him at GLA, Vilaça held several positions in the cultural area. He was a professor of international law at the Catholic University of Pernambuco, director of Caixa Econômica Federal and Secretary of Culture at the Ministry of Education and Culture. He presided over important foundations, such as Funarte and Pro-Memory.
The Immortal was born in Nazaré da Mata (PE), on June 30, 1939. He is the only son of Antonio de Souza Vilaça and Evalda Rodrigues Vilaça. He was a widower of Maria do Carmo Duarte Vilaça, with whom he had three children. The writer had occupied ABL chair 26 since 1985 and chaired the institution twice, between 2006 and 2007 and, once again, between 2010 and 2011. Marcos Vilaça will be cremated and his ashes will be thrown at Boa Viagem beach, as were his wife’s.
