Former President of the Portuguese Football Federation, Fernando Gomes
The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has marked an emergency meeting for Monday, compared to the “very serious insinuations” of the previous president and current leader of the Olympic Committee (COP), Fernando Gomes, about Pedro Proença.
This Saturday, the newly elected president of the FPF Pedro Proença revealed to have the support of Fernando Gomes in the application to the Executive Committee of UEFA.
Hours later, in a letter sent to the presidents of the European Football Federations, its predecessor and current president of COP denied the alleged support.
“It was the biggest of surprises to learn about a letter sent by the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, Pedro Proença, in which my name is mentioned without prior consent or even information”, Can be read in the missive of Fernando Gomes, who led the FPF for 13 years.
In the same letter, Fernando Gomes goes further and made harsh criticism of Pedro Proença, confessing not to share “a common view for football and sport ”with the current president of the FPF.
“Pedro Proença chose the path of the destruction of the legacy that my team and I have built over 13 yearsthrough public decisions and insinuations aimed at attacking our good name and, as you will see, are completely unfounded, ”he accused in the document.
FPF Mark Emergency Meeting
“Following the very serious innuendo, now made public, the president of the Portugal Olympic Committee on the FPF, in a letter sent to the maximum representatives of UEFA and the presidents of the 55 federations that make up the body that protects European football, the Portuguese Football Federation informs that scheduled for 09h30 hours this Monday,” says the FPF statement.
