FIFA has defined who will be the opponent in the Flamengo group at the 2025 Club World Cup. Group D member, who will enter León, excluded from the tournament, will be America, Mexico, or Los Angeles FC.

America’s choice was due to the Mexican team to be first placed in the Concacaf club ranking. The Los Angeles FC enters the runner-up for León in the Concacaf Champions League in 2023.
America has been champion of the Concacaf Champions League in seven opportunities: 1977, 1987, 1990, 1992, 2006, 2014/15 and 2015/16. This would be America’s fourth participation in Worlds: the team played the 2006, 2015 and 2016 editions, being in fourth place in 2006 and 2016.
The Los Angeles FC, on the other hand, has never been champion of the continental tournament, being vice twice – for León in 2023 and 2020 for Tigers.
Why was León excluded from the Club World Cup?
The reason for the exclusion is that the FIFA rule for the World Cup dispute provides that only one club in each group or owner can compete in the competition. Both Leon and Pachuca are owned by Mexican businessman Jesús Martínez Patiño. The businessman filed a lawsuit in the entity to allow Leon’s participation, but FIFA does not accept the request.
In addition to Pachuca and Leon, the entrepreneur’s group also owns Mexico’s more teams – Zacatecas miners and Tlaxcala Coyotes – as well as Argentina’s Talleres and Chile’s Everton. The other teams, however, did not qualify for the tournament.

How is the format of the new Club World Cup and what is the way to the final in the knockout?
Os two best teams in each group will qualify for the round of 16, that will be disputed in unique games in the knockout format, Just like the quarterfinals, the semifinals and the final. There will be no third place dispute.
In cases of tie in decisive games, there is Extension, before the game go to penalties.
