Do you know how old your cat is? Here’s how to count cat years

Although it is actually unnecessary (but logical), many breeders try to recalculate the age of their cats for human years. “How many years” is we actually our pet, when it was figuratively speaking the first candle on a mass cake? And when does the cat become really old according to human standards?

Cats age at a different speed and a different dynamics than humans. Likewise, it is certain that they will not live as many years as we do. But according to experts, this is a bit misleading, because cat time simply runs differently than human time. Did you know, for example, that during the first cat month after birth there will be similar processes in the animal as in a child within one year?

Cat “kids” have it differently

If we really wanted to compare the development of a cat chick and a later aging process in adults, we can imagine that (as we already know) a monthly kitten can be compared to a year’s child. In three months, such a kitten could figuratively speaking as a seven -year -old child, and at a celebration of half -old cat birthdays, a young lady or a young man in human form slowly chose high school as fourteen.

The second six months run slowly

It seems that in half a year the cat’s development will slow down a bit, because in the next period of the same length, according to veterinarians, only one human year will catch up. When completing the first year of the animal, its physical development can be likened to a 15 -year -old. The cat is practically adult, but it is not yet possible to talk about the real aging process. From the first to the second year of age, it will be the same as a man in the next nine years – within 24 years.

One cat year as four human

We can say that from the age of two the process of transformation (aging) cats has stabilized on a ratio of 1: 4 due to man. Every other cat year can be added as four years of human, regardless of the real age of the animal. It’s simple, just think, or take a calculator to your hand and you will soon be clear who is the oldest in your family…

How long does the cat live?

Although we have a little clear about her “human age” due to the speed of the ongoing processes in the cat’s organism, we cannot rely on individual animals to live to a similar real age. The time that is measured in the world is dependent on many circumstances, from genetic foundation to the conditions in which the cat lives.

While outdoor village cats are exposed to a larger number of health pitfalls and their life rarely exceeds ten years, cats kept in the apartment can live double age. The record holders can be small Burmilly with an average age of around 18 years, ragdolls with a similar life expectancy, or up to twenty -year -old Siamec cats. On the contrary, the popular Maine Giants are similar to village cats, their life usually lasts around 12 – 15 years.
