Little Ziv was surrounded by 7,000 stones, but “picked up one”: it was a Canaanite amulet with almost 4,000 years.
While walking with his family in Tel Azekah, a 3 -year -old girl stumbled into a 3,800 -year -old scarab amulet.
In the archaeological site, with roots that dates back to the Bronze Age, the little Ziv Nitzan saw 7,000 stones, but “caught one”, Said Omer Nitzan, the older sister: “Then cleaned the sand and saw that there was something different in it.” The family quickly contacted Israel’s antiquities authority (IAA), which confirmed the historical meaning of the object.
Later, experts identified the artifact as a Canaanite scarab of the middle bronze age. The scarably, typically molded to resemble manner scarab, were widely used in ancient times such as stamps and amulets. It was believed that they had religious or cultural meaning and were often found in graves, houses and public buildings in the old cananese region – An area that today includes parts of Israel, Palestinian territories, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan.
The drawing of the scarab is influenced by the ancient Egyptian beliefs. The Egyptians considered the lamb of manure (Bee) Sacred. They associated us with the sun god and the process of creation, due to the habit of scarably of rolling manure balls-a movement that associated the movement of the sun in the sky.
The discovery also points to the strong cultural and commercial ties between Canaan and Egypt during the middle and final bronze age, note o.
