Trump is disturbing a duty -free exception for small shipments from China, which can significantly affect the import of cheap products to the US.

US President Donald Trump signed an order to cancel a duty -free exemption for small shipments from China, which is likely to seriously disrupt the import of popular cheap products to the US. Informed AFP, writes TASR.

This exemption was a tool that a Chinese giant in the field of e -commerce – eg. Shein and Topic – allowed to expand in the United States. On the basis of this, all consignments whose content had a value of up to $ 800 (€ 733) have been exempted from the duties.

The White House said that products imported from China will now be subject to a customs rate of either 30 percent of its value or $ 25 (€ 22.93) per item, and after 1 June, this fee will increase to $ 50 (€ 45.87) per item.

Shein e-shops and TEMU boast a huge selection of ultra-lance items, which is an attraction for customers, especially when inflation has reduced the purchasing power of households almost everywhere.

As far as the US is concerned, in the fiscal year of 2024, shipments were exempt from tax to more than 1.4 billion packages, with 60 percent of them from China.
