The President commemorated the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Bratislava: The legacy of the victims of fascism is up to date today

No one can be allowed to question the hardships that the Second World War has brought to millions of people around the world. On Thursday, President Peter Pellegrini said it at the Slavín Memorial in Bratislava, where he honored the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Bratislava. The memorial visited the day before the anniversary of the liberation due to his visit to the Vatican, where he will travel on Thursday afternoon.

Head of State appealed to people show respect And thanks to all who contributed to the return of freedom to Slovakia, namely Soviet, Romanian and Slovak soldiers, insurgents, participants of the resistance and members of other nations. According to Pellegrini, many paid the highest possible price.

The President thinks that the scars of war still persist. He hinted at a tragedy such as Holocaust or Masacles in Germany, Ostrom Grun, Klak or Tokajík. “These events remain a deep blow in our history. Let’s not release to wake up ideologies that grow from the roots of evil and flood society with bitter hatred fruits,” noted.

He also pointed out the importance of liberation for Slovakia and the need to commemorate these historical events with dignity with respect. “Gratitude to the liberators has not diminished the time that has elapsed. It should not be overshadowed by the current conflicts that have returned to our continent the senseless killing and dying of innocent people. Pellegrini said. He added that residents in these countries deserve a sense of joy and relief that people experienced 80 years ago.

The President recalled that This year we do not only remember the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, but also the liberation of Bratislava and other towns and municipalities throughout Slovakia. Bratislava was liberated within the Bratislava-Bnian operation of Soviet and Romanian troops, which were located on the right wing of the second Ukrainian front. The fighting participated in 28 Soviet and 14 Romanian divisions. The fighting lasted two days.
