The UN Human Rights Council today condemned the violation of the Israeli truce in the Gaza Strip, calling on the Israeli government “to prevent genocide” in the Palestinian enclave.

The overwhelming majority adopted a resolution that also calls for Israel the “lifting of the illegal exclusion” of the Gaza Strip.

The resolution expresses “serious concern about statements by Israeli officials who are equivalent to genocide” and claims by Israel “to respect its legal responsibility for preventing genocide”.

The text was approved by the votes of 27 of the 47 members of the Council, four voted and 16 abstained. It had been proposed by most members of the Islamic Cooperation Organization following the resume on March 18 of Israeli military operations in Gaza after nearly two -month truce.

The resolution demands a “smooth supply of humanitarian aid” to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. It denounces the starvation of civilians as a war method and calls on all countries to take “immediate measures to prevent the ongoing Palestinian displacement inside or outside the Gaza Strip”.

Israel is boycotting the UN Human Rights Council, accusing it of bias, and did not participate in the vote. He has repeatedly rejected the charges of “genocide” in the Gaza War, which broke out after an unprecedented attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023 in southern Israel with a score of 1,218 dead and 251 hostages.

Since then, 50,399 people have been killed by Israeli military operations in the Palestinian enclave, according to Hamas controlled by Gaza health ministry. Of the 251 abductors, 58 remain in the Gaza Strip but 34 of them are dead, according to the Israeli army.
