Due to the celebrations after Real Madrid’s classification against Atletico Madrid for the quarterfinals of Champions League, Antonio Rudiger, Kylian Mbappé, Dani Ceballos and Vinicius Jr. were in danger of taking a hook that would leave them out of the confrontation against Arsenal.
However, UEFA decided not to punish the players. The quartet was being investigated for “breaking basic rules of decent conduct.”
Mbappé and Rudiger were fined and received suspensions from a game that do not need to be applied immediately. In addition, they enter a probative period of one year.
Ceballos was also fined and Vinicius Jr. did not receive any punishment after the investigations.
Investigations concern gestures made towards fans during Real Madrid celebrations, some considered exaggerated. Rudiger, for example, made a gesture emulating a “cut throat” towards Atletico Madrid supporters. Ceballos and Mbappé, walking toward the tunnel, would have made obscene gestures.
