The Federal Police launched, on the morning of Tuesday (15), the Operation Farra Brasil 14in order to dismantle a criminal organization specializing in fraud against the social benefit system managed by the application.
The action mobilized about 80 federal police officers to comply with 23 search and seizure warrants in seven municipalities of Rio de Janeiro: Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, São Gonçalo, Maricá, Itaboraí, Macaé and Rio das Ostras.
In addition to the warrants, the Federal Court has ordered several precautionary measures from the arrest to 16 investigated, which are now prohibited, among other restrictions, to maintain contact with each other and to attend branches of Caixa Econômica Federal.
Scheme involved cash and lotteries servers
Investigations revealed a sophisticated scheme, in which the criminal group cooperated employees of Caixa Econômica Federal and lottery houses, offering bribes to gain illicit access to third party social accounts through the application. Most victims are composed of federal government beneficiaries, but the group also defrauded FGTS and unemployment insurance values.
The action is the result of the joint work of the Coordination of Repression of Electronic Bank Frauds, linked to the PF Cybercrime Directorate, with the support of the National Centralizer for Fraud Security and Prevention (CEFRA) and the Caixa Econômica Federal Regional Corregedoria in Rio de Janeiro.

According to official Caixa data, since the launch of the Caixa application has, in April 2020, approximately 749 thousand contestation processes have been registered, generating a compensation that exceeds R $ 2 billion by the financial institution.
