Shooting at the University claimed six injured: Police detained a possible offender

Six people suffered injuries in Thursday’s shooting at the Florida State University (FSU) campus in Tallahasee. One of the injured is in a critical condition. In connection with the shooting, the police detained one person, reports TASR referring to NBC News and CNN.

The extent of victims’ injuries was not immediately known, nor has the details of the detained person have not yet been published. The NBC said one of the injured injuries succumbed. The authorities have not yet officially confirmed this, but around 4.30 pm local time (22.30 CET), the local police will have a press conference.

According to the police, a short weapon was found at the detainee, the other was secured in his vehicle and one was found in the student center, which was the venue of the shooting.

Agents from the Federal Investigation Office (FBI) also came to the place. US President Donald Trump was also informed of the shooting, who described him as a “shame” at the White House briefing. “It’s a terrible thing. Terrible that such things happen,” he added.

FSU is one of 12 public universities in Florida with the main campus in Tallahasee. According to data from 2024, about 44,000 students are entered in the university. In 2014, there was a shooting in the main library of the FSU, where three people suffered injuries. Police officers shot the perpetrator.

FSU canceled teaching and other activities on Thursday. By Sunday, it also canceled all sporting events.
