Trump and Meloni confident in a US and European Union agreement

Heads of state gathered at the White House and talked about the American tariff and NATO, as well as exchange compliments

The President of the United States, Donald Trump (Republican), received this Thursday (17.br.2025) the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni (brothers of Italy, right) in the White House. At the meeting, the leaders assured that there will be a trade agreement between the US and the European Union.

“I hope firmly for that. It will be a fair agreement”said Trump. There is no schedule yet for negotiations and both said they were not in a hurry to define this. The priority is that determinations cover concerns on both sides. The Republican said that Europe or any other nation will have no problem negotiating with the US government.

Now the Italian leader awaits Trump for an official visit to Italy. Meloni formalized the invitation at the meeting of this Thursday (17.abr) at the White House. On Friday (17.abr), Vice President Jd Vance goes to Roma and will have a new meeting with the Prime Minister.

Trump sees Meloni as a “Valuable interlocutor” Between Europe and the United States and says countries have a great relationship. Aligned on the right as Trump, the Italian prime minister was the only European leader invited to the inauguration of the US President on January 20.

The EU, which brings together 27 countries on the European continent, is charged by the US with 25% steel, aluminum and automobile rates. The block had also been taxed by 20% in Trump’s so -called reciprocal fare, but the rate was suspended for 90 days. During this period, the rate charged on European products will be 10%. On the other hand, the EU gave up retaliation.
