A person has died and seven others have been injured, from them two of gravity, by ramming a car that circulated recklessly to others at the height of Vilabareix (Girona). The accident occurred at 7.05 this Sunday, and the victim is the first dead person during the special traffic operation during Holy Week in Catalonia. In addition to the two serious injured, there are three minor people and two others of diverse consideration, according to data from the Medical Emergency System (SEM).
A patrol of the Mossos d’Esquadra on the highway to a vehicle with a French registration that circulated recklessly. But agents have barely had time to intervene: the same tourism, for reasons that are investigated, has further rammed to six other vehicles that were arrested on the highway, which has caused the death of the driver of the first car to receive the impact, and injuries to seven other people.
Some of the wounded in the incident have had to be extracted from their vehicles by the firefighters, since they had been trapped. Two serious injured – among them the companion of the deceased and the companion of the driver who circulated recklessly – and the two less serious – among them the reckless driver – have been evacuated to the Josep Trueta hospital of Girona, while the three mild have been transferred to the Hospital of Santa Caterina from Salt (Girona). Subsequently, the driver’s companion who has caused the clash has had to be transferred by helicopter to the Vall d’Hebron hospital.
The accident has forced to cut the AP-7 at the height of Vilabareix in the direction of Barcelona, so traffic is diverted by output number seven. This is the first fatal accident of this week in Catalonia, where at 12.00 on this Sunday the return operation starts, in which it is expected that, until 00.00 tomorrow, Easter Monday, festive in Catalonia, return to the area of Barcelona about 580,000 vehicles.
According to provisional data of the SCT, with this dead person there are already 48 killed in traffic accidents on the interurban roads of Catalonia since the year began.
