President says the singer had an “extraordinary role” in music and helped “the poetry and rhythm of the hills of Rio conquer” Brazilians
The President (PT) regretted this Sunday (20.ab.2025), at 74. She died from complications of treatment against breast cancer, according to the g1.
In a statement released by Planalto ( – PDF – 296 KB), Lula stated that the artist was a “Talented composer” and had a “Extraordinary Role” in Brazilian music, “Helping the poetry and rhythm of the hills of Rio conquer the hearts of Brazilians”.
The president also sympathized with the family of Cristina Buarque, who is the sister of singer and songwriter Chico Buarque, whom the petista called his friend. “A big hug”he wrote.
Who was Cristina Buarque
Cristina was the daughter of historian Sérgio Buarque de Holanda and painter and pianist Maria Amelia Cesário Alvim, as well as Chico Buarque, singer and former Minister of Culture Ana de Hollanda and singer and songwriter Miúcha, who died in 2018.
