Moscow could give up parts of annexed areas if the fighting in Ukraine stopped, sources close to negotiations say.

Russian President Vladimir Putin allegedly offered the United States to stop fighting in Ukraine along the current front lines. On Tuesday, the Financial Times (FT) reported this, referring to three persons familiar with the matter. TASR writes about this, according to the Reuters report.

According to FT sources, Putin told Special Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff during their recent four -hour meeting in St. Petersburg.

Possible concessions of Moscow

In such a case, Moscow could give up the claims to parts of four annexed Ukrainian areas that still remain under the control of Kiev.

In 2014, Russia annexed the Ukrainian Crimean Peninsula and in 2022 after the launch of the nationwide invasion and manipulated referendums in the occupied territories annexed Luhanská, Donetská, Zaporožská and Kersonian region. Although none of these areas are completely controlled by Moscow, it considers them an integral part of the Russian Federation and its federal entities.

Bloomberg reported on Saturday that the United States is allegedly ready to recognize Russian control of Crimea as part of a wider peace agreement between Moscow and Kiev.
