A British has chosen an original way to draw attention to the issue of the disappearance of birds

Matt Trevelyan traveled 85 kilometers in a bird suit to draw attention to the disappearance of a rare species in the UK.

Trevelyan is an employee of the Nidderdale National Park in North Yorkshire and former doll. He created a huge costume, about three meters, which embodies his favorite bird – the field site (Numenius Arquata), on the red list of species threatened in the United Kingdom since 2015, reports The Independent and New York Post.

The costume was made in three days of split bamboo, textile and foam. “The field site is my favorite bird and my heart breaks to see how it disappears faster from the British landscape. Its song is disturbing and exciting. It was wonderful to hear it during the hiking,” confessed Matt.

He started on foot from Pateley Bridge on April 19 and reached the rocks Brimham Rocks on April 20 – just before the World Site Day, marked on the first day after this date. He went daily for 12 hours without break.

The World Site Day was instituted in 2017 by the writer Mary Colwell to raise the public opinion on the decline of the species and the threats they face: loss of habitat, climate change and soil degradation.

Nidderdale National Park is one of the few places where this bird can still be observed. In the last two decades, the population has decreased by half, reaching about 58,000 copies.

“The field site is a sedentary bird-it returns every year on the same field to lay its eggs and raise its chicks. It needs quiet meadows, with high grass, but these lands are frequently used for the mole. explained Trevelyan.

He hopes that his initiative inspires more people to get involved in protecting nature and assuming a more responsible relationship with the environment. “If we lose the field site, we lose an important part of the wild nature and the British culture,” he stressed.
