Greenland will never become a piece of property that could be bought, said on Sunday the Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsenwho is visiting Denmark for the first time since taking office. He responded to the statements of US administration representatives who have repeatedly shown interest in gaining Greenland. TASR reports according to AFP.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly raised Greenland during the election campaign even after returning to the White House and even excluded the use of power. This is often justified by national and international security. In the latest interview with Time magazine, whether he might be a little bit of a question when he talks about getting territories and taking control of them, Trump indicated that he was really serious about it.

“We will never be a property that anyone can buy, and this is, in my opinion, the most important message to be understood,” Nielsen said at a joint press conference with Danish Prime Minister Mitte Frederiksen.

After the negotiations, the leaders announced that they had agreed to strengthen the relations between Greenland and Denmark. “We are in a foreign policy situation that means we have to get closer,” He said the Greenland Prime Minister in Copenhagen. He added that Greenland is ready for a strong partnership with the US, but expects respect.

Only about 57,000 people live on the largest island of the world. There are deposits of valuable minerals, which have not been used so far. Since 1979, Greenland has been autonomous in many areas, but Denmark is still deciding on foreign and defense policy.
