The large blackout that hit part of Europe, especially Spain and Portugal, near the lunch time on Monday (28), caused the cancellation of rounds of Madrid Open and the Portuguese Championship.

Initially, the organization of the tennis tournament played in the Spanish capital chose to suspend for three hours the disputes scheduled for this Monday. With the delay in reestablishing the energy, prosecutors decided to cancel the games and resume the Masters 1000 tournament on Tuesday (29).

“For reasons beyond the organization and to ensure general security, the national energy cut in Spain on Monday, April 28, forced the cancellation of Madrid Open’s daytime and night sessions,” the organization said in an official statement.

At the beginning of the round, the game between Grigor Dimitrov and Jacob Fearnley had to be paralyzed after a camera was stopped above the court, with its operation impacted by the absence of electricity.

Shortly after the failure, the main court was emptied and the other duels were canceled.

In Portugal, the League, responsible for organizing the Portuguese Championship games, suspended the disputes of the first and second division scheduled for today.

The 31st round of the Portuguese elite had only one game scheduled for this Monday, between Casa Pia and Estoril. A new date will still be announced by the League.
