A widespread blackout in Spain, which also affected Portugal, made the matches suspended on Monday (28). At the time when the power grid was dropped, Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov was at Match Point against Briton Jacob Fearnley and played a place in the round of 16. In addition to them, two other matches, by simple and doubles tournaments, had to be interrupted due to the power outage in the Spanish capital. With the stoppage of the matches, this Monday’s schedule is suspended. And the games scheduled for this Monday can be postponed to Tuesday. The organization has not yet spoken out about the situation of the day programming.

At the moment, the following matches were paralyzed in Madrid: Grigor Dimitrov x Jacob Fearnley, with a partial 6/4 and 5/4 victory for Bulgarian; Damir Dzumhur x Matteo Arnaldi, with the Italian ahead, with partials of 3/6 and 2/3; And the double confrontation between Americans Evan King and Christian Harrison and Australians Matthew Abden and John Peers, with the United States team ahead in the marked, with 5/3 on the first set. Through social networks, Madrid’s Masters organizers said they are working to resume “as soon as possible” games. Without power on the courts, the line marking system, through which it is defined if there was a point, if the ball is close to the sides of the field, cannot work. In addition to the Iberian Peninsula, regions of France, England, Italy, among other European countries, were also affected.

Until the moment of publication of this text, the energy was not restored in the Madrid Complex, where the Masters 1000 matches occur. The power outage took place around 12:30 pm, at Spanish time – 7:30 am, from Brasilia – and there is no official explanation yet. According to the Spanish newspaper The countrythe failure affected the entire continental part of the Iberian Peninsula, generating problems in the areas of communication, public transportation, airports, trades, among others. The governments of Portugal and Spain study, with Red Electric, a public company responsible for the power supply, about the possibility of being motivated by a cyberatoque. The replacement plans of the electric company began in the north and southern Spain. The capital Madrid, however, remains dark.
