Federal deputy will demand appeal from the Public Ministry against decision that changed attempted feminicide to bodily harm
The federal deputy (PT) informed this Sunday (May 24, 2026) that it will activate the and will demand an appeal from the Public Ministry of Paraná against the decision of the Court of Justice of Paraná that changed the classification of attempted femicide to serious bodily injury. The case involves José Rodrigo Bandura, arrested after setting fire to his partner in June 2025.
Judges Miguel Kfouri Neto, Mauro Bley Pereira Junior and Rotoli de Macedo understood that there was “effective repentance” of the defendant, arguing that he had helped the victim after the attack. As a result, the crime was no longer treated as attempted femicide.
At the time of the crime, reports showed that the victim had to lock himself in a bathroom to escape the attacks. Gleisi stated that he will ask the Public Ministry to appeal the decision so that the case can be analyzed by the Jury Court.
The congresswoman also intends to provoke the CNJ to investigate any violation of functional duties by the magistrates involved in the decision. Furthermore, it will advocate that Paraná join the National Pact to Prevent Femicides.
“Setting a woman on fire demonstrates a conscious desire to kill”said Gleisi. According to the deputy, transforming the attempted feminicide into bodily harm compromises the seriousness of the crime and weakens the gender perspective applied to the case.
