In the decree, signed by Mayor Anderson Luiz Brazão Góes, after a recommendation of the Amazonas Public Defender’s Office, the justification of the measure is the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the municipality, which is about 852 kilometers from the capital Manaus.
According to the Defender’s Office, the published decree also restricts access to indigenous areas of people who do not present updated vaccination book against the disease or negative test performed in the last 48 hours.
In addition, the document establishes the obligation to use masks in all closed environments of collective use (public offices, commercial establishments, schools, churches, public transport and any closed environment with circulation of people).
The Defender also pointed out that, until last Tuesday (22), the city had registered 378, among 897 suspicious cases. Already in March, 197 suspected cases of the disease in the municipality, 87 tested positive. In December last year, the city recorded 14 cases.
According to public defender Marcelo Barbosa, there is at least one suspicious death being investigated.
The decree in force stated that non -compliance with certain measures may result in administrative sanctions.
