The Mayor of Vienna Michael Ludwig has a selection of three possible coalition partners, but has excluded cooperation with the far right -wing FPÖ.

The Austrian Social Democrats (SPÖ) won 39.5 percent of the votes in Sunday’s country elections in Vienna, with the second place being the far right free party of Austria (FPÖ) with 20.7 percent. This stems from almost complete results of the census of votes to which the public service television of ORF was referred. FPÖ has almost tripled its profits since the last election, writes TASR.

The Social Democratic Party of Austria, which has ruled continuously since 1945, will have 43 seats and FPö 22 mandates in the 100-member city council and at the same time the Land Assembly, the forecast is developed for the ORF and the APA press agency.

In the elections in the third place, the greens finished with 14.2 percent of the votes, occupying 15 seats. Almost 11 percent of the people from ÖVP received a percentage less liberals from NEOS, who will have ten mandates.

The Mayor of Vienna Michael Ludwig now has three parties to choose from APA, with whom he could create a coalition – his current coalition partner Neos, ÖVP or Greens. In advance, he excluded cooperation with FPÖ, claiming that Vienna has become a more dangerous city and who wants the metropolis to stop giving funds to integrate foreigners from Syria or Afghanistan.

In Vienna, approximately 1.1 million eligible voters could decide on the future composition of the municipal council and mayors of 23 city districts on Sunday. AFP writes that more than a third of its two million inhabitants do not have Austrian citizenship and their number is still growing.

FPÖ has significantly improved since the last municipal elections in 2020. At that time, according to DPA, she led extremely poorly after an affair known as Ibiza-Gate and related allegations of corruption. This scandal led to the fall of Prime Minister Sebastian Kurz and early parliamentary elections.

Vienna was repeatedly declared a city in which the best in the world is lived.
