Ismael Bezerra, father of little Cristina Maria and ex-husband of Yara Paulino, was arrested on Tuesday (29) during a Civil Police operation at the City of the People’s Housing Estate in Rio Branco. His brother is also among the eight detainees. The action is part of the investigation into the murder of Yara, in March this year.

Yara was beaten to death on public roads after being falsely accused of killing her newborn daughter. The crime was committed by members of the so -called “Crime Court”. Rests of an animal found in a feed bag were confused with the body of the baby, which is still missing.
According to delegate Leonardo Ribeiro, responsible for the case, Ismael was at Yara’s house at the time she was tortured before she was executed, a fact already confirmed by the investigation. “He denied in testimony, but we already have proof that he was present,” he said.
Two other women arrested would also have participated in the torture sessions. Despite the arrests, the origin of the rumor that led to execution is still uncertain. “The information would have emerged days before death. A resident saw someone discarding a garbage bag and deduced that it would be Yara,” Ribeiro explained.

Of the eight people arrested, six have direct involvement with criminal factions. Among them, there is a supposed leader who may have ordered death. General delegate Henrique Maciel reported that, in addition to the arrests, ten search and seizure warrants were served.
The Civil Police do not rule out new developments that can clarify the child’s whereabouts.
