Sarrubbo: US decision will make it difficult to exchange information between the FBI and PF

Former national secretary of Public Security Mario Sarrubbo said to CNN Brazil this Friday (29) who received with surprise the decision of the United States to classify the PCC (First Command of the Capital) and the CV (Red Command) as terrorist organizations.

According to him, the measure will make it difficult to exchange information between the FBI and the PF (Federal Police).

“It stops being a police issue and becomes a defense issue. And that is one of the biggest losses that Brazil can have”he explained.

The former secretary pointed out that cooperation between the PF and the American police is traditional, fluid, as it happens almost daily.

“Brazil has an international cooperation center with the presence of American police officers. This is now over because, evidently, intelligence agencies such as the CIA and the Armed Forces do not have this tradition”.

Still according to him, this change should make it more difficult to combat transnational organized crime.

“I’ll give an example that I experienced. Lincoln Gakya, at Gaeco at the time, identified a financial transaction within a company in the United States and, with the contacts we had with the Consulate and Embassy, within three or four days we sent a detailed letter and subsequently there was a freeze on these resources in American territory. It is this type of thing that will be made impossible or hindered by this new stage”he said.

Another point highlighted by Sarrubbo is the fact that, from now on, hypothetically, Brazil is now at risk of having agents from the American Intelligence Center here in Brazil.

“Not to mention more serious issues such as territorial incursions, which many people don’t believe will happen. But hypothetically it could, as we saw on the Caribbean coast with Venezuela.”

Recently, the United States bombed vessels in the region, alleging that they were being used for drug trafficking.

“It’s the normalization of absurdity, it’s really a situation that we have to be very careful about. If it happens, there will be a very serious violation of our sovereignty”added the former secretary.
