Georgian arrested in northern Greece on suspicion of spying on Saturday acknowledged as an innocent on a reasonable doubt. This is the second similar case in the last week. TASR informs about this, referring to AFP.

A sixty -seven -year -old man was arrested on Friday before a military camp in Serres for alleged photography in the area where it is forbidden. The man was noticed by the soldiers who alarmed the police. The Georgian apologized on Saturday and claimed that “he did not realize that the place where he photographed was a military camp”.

Sources from the courts of the courts also report that he took only two photos of the camp gate. When a judge asked him if he was legally legally photographed by military facilities in Georgia, he replied that “camps in his country are usually found in forest areas and are not accessible to civilians”. The man claimed that he came to Greece on April 28 as a result of serious health problems close to his wife.

Another man was also suspicious

At the beginning of the week, Greek got into custody for suspicion of photography of supply convoys in the interest of Russia in the port city of Alexandrupolis. The port of Alexandrupoli lies at the Turkish border and is a key point for the US military to move equipment to Europe under the defense agreement.

The Greek citizen (59) of Georgian origin in the northeast of the country was detained on Tuesday and Friday showed him before the investigative judge.

According to the police, the man confessed that at the request of another person he photographed and filmed military material and sent the shots through the encrypted application. A Source from the police told AFP that it was a military equipment heading for Ukraine, which allegedly proves the content of a secured mobile phone.

Photos were also the media

However, according to a court source, the suspect stated during a Friday hearing that he “did not do anything illegal”. He said that “the photographs of the transport of NATO devices have been published many times in the media,” the court source added.

The suspect allegedly served in the Russian army and apparently he was recruited through the intermediary by the Russian Military Intelligence (GRU), the source said. The Greek media report that it was supposed to be a Georgian living in Lithuania.

Despite historical ties to Russia, Greece has been supporting Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion.
