President Donald Trump said he is instructing his government to reopen and expand Alcatraz, the Old Prison on an island of California. The arrest was closed in 1963. The island of Alcatraz is currently operated as a tourist spot.
“I am instructing the department of prisons, along with the Justice Department, the FBI and the internal security, to reopen a substantially expanded and rebuilt Alcatraz, to house the most cruel and violent criminals in the United States,” Trump wrote in a message on Sunday night.
Still according to him, the reopening of Alcatraz will serve as a “symbol of law, order and justice.” The order was issued at a time when Trump has been conflicting with the courts when trying to send members of gangs accused for a notorious arrest in El Salvador, without due process of law. Trump also talked about the desire to send American citizens there and to other foreign arrests.
