Federal District is the only federation unit that has 100% of education units with both resources
One of the CNMP (National Council of the Public Prosecution Service) project has found that 6,658 basic education schools in Brazil operate without access to drinking water, while 4,925 have no bathrooms.
Pará is the state with the worst infrastructure. About 1,949 schools in Pará territory suffer from a lack of drinking water, while 1,358 have no bathrooms for students.
All over Brazil, the water problem affects 744,000 children and adolescents, while the lack of bathroom harms 458,000 students. Here are the states with worst infrastructure in relation to water:
- Pará – 1,949 schools without drinking water;
- Maranhão – 1,108 schools without drinking water;
- Bahia – 755 schools without drinking water.
The Federal District, on the other hand, is the only federation unit that has no school with lack of water and bathroom. The state of Alagoas is the only one who has no schools without a bathroom. Here are the states with worst infrastructure compared to bathrooms:
- Pará – 1,358 schools without toilets;
- São Paulo – 985 schools without toilets;
- Amazonas – 906 schools without toilets.
The survey was made from data from the 2024 School Census. In total, 3.67% of 181,065 basic education schools operate without water for consumption. In addition, 2.72% of educational institutions even have sanitary bathrooms.
