Proper sorting of waste is an important step that all of us can take in order to protect the environment and planet. Sometimes, however, doubts arise when we are dealing with different food waste, which is difficult to classify at first glance.

This topic also applies to packaging in which feed is stored for our pets. There are many available on the market, from pockets, cans, bags to plastic boxes. Their incorrect disposal makes it difficult to recycle. It is good to know which container should be placed in such waste.

Where to throw away packaging from pet food? There is no clear answer

Since empty feed packages for our hairy friends take different forms, they should be treated individually in separation. How to proceed properly?

  • Throw the plastic pockets in the yellow container. This is a plastic and metal fraction.
  • Metal canned food from feed also belong to yellow container.
  • Also throw plastic containers into the yellow container.
  • Toss clean cardboard packaging in blue container on paper.
  • Fatty paper packaging should go to a black mixed waste container.
  • Throw the used pet food pockets into a black container as it is mixed waste.

Should the packaging be washed before the waste sorting? The most important rules

In order to make the packaging for dogs or cats suitable for recycling, it is good to prepare it in advance.

  • First, empty the packaging from the food residue.
  • Then rinse them with warm water. There is no need to use a detergent. The packaging can also be wiped with a sponge.
  • Finally, dry the packaging, e.g. paper towel.
  • Throw the unfinished meal, e.g. Dry, wet, snacks or chewing gum, in a mixed waste container. These residues should not be disposed of in biowaste because they contain meat and animal fats and this container is intended only for plant residues.
