Tragedy in Berlin: Police found the body of a dead newborn on the street

Police are intensively looking for a mother, using the deployment of drone and trained dogs of the Red Cross.

They found a dead newborn on Sunday in the early morning on the street in the German capital of Berlin, the police said. TASR informs according to DPA and Bild.

The child’s body was discovered by a policeman in the Neukölln district in the southern part of the German metropolis at approximately five o’clock. The cop was on his way to work, riding a bike when his attention attracted a special object on the road. At first he thought it was a doll, Bild writes. Later he found it to be a newborn’s dead body, and immediately alerted reinforcements.

The investigation of the case was taken over by the murder department, writes DPA. Police are intensively searching for the child’s mother. Forensic technicians have examined the place of finding and the child’s body will be subjected to judicial autopsy in order to determine his age and cause of death, and whether it was viable after birth.

The police drone and the search for the dogs of the local Red Cross were also involved in the search, adds DPA.
