«Ξύπνησε» το ηφαίστειο Κανλάον – Εισήλθε σε φάση εκρηκτικής δραστηριότητας

The Cenlaon volcano, one of the 24 active volcanoes in the, re -entered an explosive phase on Monday night, causing concern to local authorities and residents.

The explosion occurred at 02:55 in the early morning (local time) and lasted about five minutes. According to the Philippine volcanic and seismology institute, ash was launched at three kilometers, and volcanic removes were observed.

The volcano had shown signs of activity in April, and had been put on a level of alert 3 since December. This alarm remains in force, and the six -kilometer seat belt around the crater remains active.

Local authorities have already ordered evacuations from the previous December, with the surrounding villages being emptied of their inhabitants.

The recent explosion is described as “moderate”, but the area remains on alert. Authorities warn of possible new explosions and point out the need for increased attention from those in nearby areas.

It is worth noting that in August 1996, a sudden explosion on the cannon had claimed life on three walkers near the top of the volcano.

Volcano

The Volcano Cenlaon is one of the most active and dangerous volcanoes of the Philippines. It is located on the island of Negros, in the central part of the archipelago, and is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, a particularly earthquake and volcanic active area.

The cannon is about 2,465 meters high, making it the highest point on the island of Negros and one of the most impressive natural landscapes in the country. It is particularly popular with climbers and walkers, as it has trails and protected areas. However, its history with sudden explosions makes it dangerous for those who approach it without proper preparation or information.

The volcano has multiple recorded eruptions over the last hundred years, with frequent manifestations of ash and gases.

It is the subject of close monitoring by the Philippine Volcanical and Seismology Institute, which regularly publishes bulletins and warnings of its volcanic activity.
