The Minister of Agriculture, said on Monday (19) that Brazil has the possibility of recovering the status of free country, provided that no new cases are not recorded in the next 28 days. The first focus of the disease was identified in a bird breeding ground located in Montenegro, Rio Grande do Sul, on May 16. Fávaro emphasized the relevance of poultry blocking and tracking measures in the affected farm as a way to minimize the risk of new outbreaks. He also stressed that the investigation of suspicious cases is a routine practice in the Brazil Agricultural Defense System, which is on alert due to the zoosanitary emergency decree.

Currently, there are two in progress investigations related to aviary flu: one in a farm in Ipumirim, Santa Catarina, and one in a slaughterhouse in Aguiarnópolis, Tocantins. To date, Brazil has a case confirmed in Montenegro and 164 records in wild birds, totaling 168 cases of the disease in the country. High pathogenicity, known as H5N1, should be communicated immediately to the bodies responsible for animal health defense, according to the established guidelines.
