George Simion after the electoral struggle recedes, Romania will lead the new President Nicușor Dan

Nationalist and pro -Russian politician George Simion acknowledged his defeat in the second round of the presidential election in Romania on Monday night and congratulated their winner, Mayor of the capital Bucharest, Centrist Nicušor Dan, AFP reported, TASR writes.

“I would like to congratulate my opponent Nicushor Dan. He won the election. It was the will of the Romanian people,” said Simion, who had previously declared himself a winner of the elections – although the first preliminary results at that time indicated the tax management.

Agerpres reported on Monday that, according to incomplete preliminary results, Dan won 54 percent of the votes in the elections, while the Simiona Simiona candidate was supported by 46 percent of voters.

From the census of less than 10 percent of the votes cast by the Romanians in Diaspora, Dan won 73.09 percent of the votes and Simion 26.91 percent of the vote.

More than 11.6 million Romanians came to vote in the second round of the elections.

Important for the future

Since Sunday evening, Dan’s supporters who chanted: “Russia, do not forget, Romania is not yours,” Reuters wrote.

“These elections are really important for the European future,” said 19-year-old Ilinca Sipoteano. “It is very good for democracy and younger generations … And also for our parents and grandparents who fought the system in 1989,” she added.

After publishing the unofficial elections, Dan thanked the voters for their trust. He said that he was facing a challenging challenge to find the Prime Minister, who should have a majority in Parliament, in Parliament a reduction in Romania’s budget deficit – the largest in the EU -, calmed investors and tried to avoid reducing credit rating. He announced that these negotiations could last several weeks.

“We will have a difficult time, necessary to re -balance the economy and lay the foundations of a healthy society. Please have hope and patience,” Dan said, after the first preliminary results that showed his lead over Simion.

Key support of Ukraine

Dan, who is a supporter of the EU and NATO, said before the presidential election that the support of Romania for Ukraine is also crucial for its own safety of Romania before the growing threat of Russia.

The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelera in the meantime congratulated Dan on his “historical victory” and wrote on social networks: “For Ukraine – as a neighbor and friend – it is important to have Romania as a reliable partner.”

Sky News recalled that Romania has had a turbulent six months – starting with the court’s decision to abolish the last presidential election because of the suspicion of Russian interference and subsequently to get rid of their winner, the far right -wing politician Calina Georgesca, the possibility to re -run. Also some of the most affordable opponents of Georgesca were dissatisfied with the fact that the presidential elections were “canceled” in this way.
