In an event on children’s protection, First Lady says that young people are reproducing violent attitudes they see on social networks
First Lady Janja da Silva said on Monday (19.MAI.2025) “In shock” with recent episodes of violence involving children. He cited the case of the 9 -year -old who killed 23 animals in the interior of Paraná and the influence of social networks in this behavior.
“I was shocked when I saw children of 7, 8 years torturing animals. This certainly saw in some adult video. They are vulnerable to this. Sometimes they commit acts without really knowing what that means,” said Janja during the opening event of the National Week to Confront Sexual Violence in Brasilia.
The case cited by the first lady was in October 2024. According to the portal Metropolisa 9-year-old child killed 20 rabbits and 3 guinea pigs that were kept in a veterinary hospital in Nova Fátima, Paraná. Images from security cameras showed the moment the boy broke into the place and brutally assaulted the animals.
Following, Janja also cited a more recent case by Sarah Raissa Pereira de Castro, 8, which in Ceilândia, the Federal District. The girl was admitted to the Regional Hospital of the Administrative Region on April 10 and had the death confirmed 3 days later. According to the family, she participated in a Tiktok challenge.
Janja charged the accountability of digital platforms. Stated that this is a measure “indispensable” for the protection of young people.
“Social networks, online games, messaging groups, all digital spaces are part of our children’s daily life, our children and adolescents, and like any space, there are risks. Virtual violence, grooming, digital bullying and access to inappropriate content and criminals can happen at any time,”, ”, these.

The first lady also recalled the leakage of her conversation with China President Xi Jinping about Tiktok social network during a visit to the Asian country. He said he gave the statement thinking about the protection of young people.
“At no time will I shut up my voice to talk about it, at no time and at no opportunity. There is no protocol to shut up if I have an opportunity to talk about it with anyone else, the highest level, the highest level to the ordinary citizen.
