Justice gives government 20 days to explain spending on Janja trips

The Federal Court opened a period of 20 days for the Union to speak up on the spending of the first lady, Janja, with international trips. She was also notified to present her defense in the process.

“As long as the contradictory is not formalized, this judgment is not possible to assess in depth the likelihood of the alleged right,” wrote Judge Leonardo Tavares Saraiva, from the 9th Civil Court of Brasilia, last Sunday, 18, by ordering the Union.

Expenses are questioned in a popular action filed by Councilman Guilherme Kilter (Novo), from Curitiba, and lawyer Jeffrey Chiquini.

They ask for the immediate suspension of “any payment orders, reimbursements, daily rates, tickets or expense authorizations” with first lady’s trips.

In the same decision, Judge Leonardo Tavares Saraiva denied, from preliminary to pay the payment of Janja’s displacement expenses to other countries.

The magistrate considered that, for now, there are no “skilled elements to prove the illegality of the administrative acts fought.”

“I consider absent the enough elements to instill in holding conviction as to the likelihood of the protected right and the danger of damage invoked. This is because, the harm to public assets, arising from these decrees, was not promptly shown,” he wrote.

First lady’s trips have been the subject of opposition questions about costs and the need for Janja’s participation in events.
