The president of Palmeiras, Leila Pereira, said on Sunday morning (25) that fought for former CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues to remain in charge of the entity.
However, with the impossibility of him following in office, Leila reaffirmed support to Samir Xad, elected on Sunday.
“I was even in assumption with him [Ednaldo]invited to the FIFA Congress, but the court ordered the removal of the president. I will not be discussing legal issues, “said Leila.
“I am a woman who deals with things as they are. Because things are sometimes not the way we want. Things are what they are. So we have this situation: the president was away and gave up on the resources and was chosen another candidate, who is Samir, who will be elected today,” he added.
Leila’s statement occurred before the vote confirmed the Xaud triumph. She said his proposals to the CBF are those that Palmeiras defends “for a long time”. Leila cited issues such as financial fair play, improvements in the soccer calendar and advances in arbitration.
“The position of Palmeiras has always been to do the best for Brazilian football. Palmeiras never thought solely and exclusively at Palmeiras. Palmeiras does not play alone,” he said to journalists.
Leila associated the name of Xaud with an attempt to renew at the CBF. “Otherwise, it would continue the same thing.”
The president of Palmeiras also evaluated that it is “prejudice” to say that Xaud is the candidate of a “not very expressive” federation.
To defend her argument, she made an analogy with her own trajectory. In this sense, the president pointed out to have faced prejudice by entering the world of football, an environment with male predominance in club management.
“My management is the most victorious in Palmeiras’ history,” he said.
“This woman that the vast majority said would be a Queen of England is more for Margareth Thatcher,” he added, in a reference to former United Kingdom Prime Minister
