French authorities announced that 79 people were arrested on the second wave of operations during the Paris Saint-Germain title celebrations in the Champions League.

PSG defeated Inter Milan 5-0 at the end of Saturday (31) at night in Munich. On Sunday (1st), the team returned to Paris for a triumphant reception on Champs Élysées Avenue and the Princes Park Stadium.

The celebrations of the first Parisian club title in the Champions League were marked by the violence.

“We saw a resurgence of individuals motivated by malicious intentions who were not really PSG fans,” Paris police chief Laurent Nuñez told RTL radio.

“Seventy -nine people were detained, some of them at night,” added Nuñez.

Some were arrested for trying to block traffic, while others tried to vandalize shops or fired fireworks on Champs Élysées Avenue, he explained.

On Saturday night, police made more than 500 arrests throughout France, according to the Interior Ministry, after more than 200 cars were set on fire and police were confronted by several groups.

Two people died: a minor who was stabbed in Dax in southwestern France and a young man run over in Paris. A police officer is in a coma after being injured by fireworks.

“Nothing can what happened in recent hours, violent clashes are unacceptable,” said French President Emmanuel Macron, before congratulating the players.
