RS: Police investigates alleged error in baby medicine dosage

The Rio Grande do Sul Civil Police opened an inquiry to investigate the case where a 1 year old baby, who follows a coma, allegedly received a high dosage of a medicine, about ten times higher than the prescribed by the medical team.

The case happened at the Clinical Hospital, which is in Porto Alegre, in early May.

According to the delegate responsible for the investigations, Alice Fernandes, the inquiry was received by the Special Division of Children and Adolescents (Deca) on Tuesday afternoon (3), from the record of the occurrence made by the mother of the child, through the online police station.

With the occurrence in hand and with an inquiry already in progress, the Civil Police should carry out steps, hear those involved in the case, as well as analyze the baby’s medical record, to understand the reasons that led the child to coma.
