A Attorney General’s Office (PGR) defended on Monday (2) the maintenance of the pre-trial detention of Walter Braga Netto after the defense of the former minister appealed to the decision issued by the minister Alexandre de Moraesdo Supreme Federal Court (STF)in the context of the criminal action that investigates an attempt to coup.

According to the PGR, the severity of crimes, the risk that they recur and to harm investigations are enough reasons to maintain pre -trial detention, according to the law and prior decisions of the Supreme Court.

“The understanding is, therefore, that the exceptional restriction of freedom to come and go of the aggravating is still necessary, adequate and proportional and cannot be effectively replaced by alternative precautionary measures at this time,” says Attorney General Paulo Gonet, in demonstration.

On May 22 ,. The defense filed a regimental appeal, requiring the case to be reconsidered.

The minister then gave 5 days for the PGR to speak out, which happened on Monday. Moraes has the final decision.

Former Government Minister Bolsonaro has been under arrest since December 2024 in a Rio de Janeiro barracks, accused of trying to disrupt investigations and get information from Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid’s award-winning denunciation.

This is the second request for Braga Netto’s defense for provisional freedom. The request was made in March, shortly after the general became a defendant in the Supreme, and was answered only in late May.
