The death of an athlete always has an impact on the midst of the sport. In bodybuilding, this is no different. Dallas McCarver, George “Droll” Peterson, Shawn Rhoden, Cedric McMillan, Neil Currey and Christian Figueiredo are some of the professional bodybuilders who have died in the last decade. However, an initiative promises to change this dynamic.
Through classes led by health professionals from various sectors, DOC2Coach, promoted by MuscleContest International, aims to bring more knowledge to bodybuilders. CEO and owner of the event producer, Tamer El Guindy points out that “unfortunately, there is a lack of education in our sport.”
“The goal of DOC2Coach is to connect highly qualified doctors to coaches, trainers and athletes. Passing that knowledge can help them make more conscious decisions, which is a prevention against the dangers that exist in this sport – just as there are dangers in any sport, not only in bodybuilding,” adds the producer of Olympia and referee of the Professional League of the International Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation. (IFBB).
Also according to the businessman, the service will provide content by cardiologists, sports doctors, nutritionists and psychologists: “We want to give full support to the athlete and the trainer.”
The contents of the initiative, which will be officially announced during the MuscleContest Brazil, championship that will take place in July, will be passed through face -to -face and online courses. At first, these classes will be made available upon payment. However, El Guindy states that MuscleContest International studies a possibility of making this knowledge more accessible and part of it, even free.
