Licensed federal deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) stated on Friday (6) that she intends to voluntarily present herself to the authorities of Italy, where she is currently. In an interview with CNN, the parliamentarian said she is seeking to prove her innocence and will request political refuge, claiming to be a victim of persecution in Brazil.

“I am here in good faith. I want to prove that I was convicted without proof and that my conviction for illegal possession of a gun is absurd, since it had legal possession,” he said. Zambelli also said he will provide his data to the Italian authorities to officialize his situation in the country.
During the interview, the deputy reiterated that she respects the Italian justice, but harshly criticized Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), whose decisions, she said, have no legitimacy. “I respect the laws of Brazil, but I no longer recognize the injustices of Moraes,” he said.
It is expected that, next Monday (9), Minister Alexandre de Moraes determine Zambelli’s final arrest, which can pave the way for an extradition request. If it is extradited to Brazil, the deputy should start serving the 10 -year prison sentence, and officially loses the parliamentary mandate.
Zambelli was convicted of invasion of the electronic system of the National Council of Justice (CNJ). This Friday, the first class of the Supreme Court unanimously rejected an appeal presented by its defense, exhausting the possibilities of reversal of the sentence in the Court.
The deputy said to be extradited, but said he trusted a fair decision by the Italian court. “I fear, yes, but I believe God will not allow it,” he concluded.
